- Overview: Davanagere district, located in Karnataka, India, serves as the administrative center with the city of Davanagere as its headquarters. The district had a population of 1,643,494 in 2011, with 32.31% living in urban areas. It was separated from Chitradurga district in 1997.
- Geography: Situated in the central plains of Karnataka, Davanagere is bordered by Shimoga, Haveri, Chitradurga, Vijayanagara, and Chikmagalur districts. The area includes both the Deccan Plateau and Malnad regions, spanning 5,926 km² (2,288 sq mi) with favorable conditions for wind energy.
- History: Historically, Davanagere has been ruled by several dynasties, including the Mauryas, Kadambas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, and Vijayanagara Empire. It witnessed periods of autonomy under local nayakas and was later incorporated into Mysore state after the defeat of Tipu Sultan.
